Tatossian, Armand (1951-2012)

Oil on isorel signed lower right A. Tatossian
Born in Egypt to Armenian parents in 1948, Armand Tatossian arrived in Montreal in 1960 and established himself as one of Quebec's great master landscape artists. After immigration, he devoted himself to painting and became close to Adam Sherriff Scott, eventually becoming his assistant. This is how he discovered the work of Goodridge Roberts, Stanley Cosgrove and A.Y. Jackson. He studied at the Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1970 to 1971, perfecting his impressionist approach. He then returned to Montreal, devoting himself mainly to painting landscapes of his adopted province. This was followed by numerous international exhibitions, and his appointment as a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1973, making Tatossian the youngest ever elected to the Academy.
